The Real Reason We're In Yugoslavia

written by Eric Tune

There is an article on the CNN news web site which talks about how some of the celebrities in Yugoslavia are protesting against the NATO bombing onslaught. In reality it’s not much, but I supposed that if you’re a Serb, every little bit helps.

This goes to show that the Serbs are a little tougher and more united than NATO probably gives them credit for being. No, not because some girls turn down Playboy, but because it sure seems like the Serbian people very much support their country. I wouldn’t venture to guess whether or not this might be due to mass propaganda that the Serbian government is putting out in order to appease their people or not, but if there’s smoke there’s usually fire. Either the Serbs use some seriously kick ass propaganda to totally fool their own people, or maybe things aren’t as they seem to us in the West.

I KNOW that NATO uses propaganda extensively. It’s a job specialty in Military Intelligence in the Army call Psychological Operations. I don’t know if I really believe all the crap NATO is shoveling anymore, and perhaps the people in the NATO countries are getting fooled by our various governments into believing that we have no ulterior motives for being there. Anybody who thinks we have a truly “free press” needs to think back or look up information on the Warren Commission and the JFK assassination… and then think about the supposed “magic bullet” theory.

I received a letter from friend which forwarded an extremely interesting article concerning perhaps the real reason we’re bombing Serbia back to the Stone Age. It would be quite noble of us if we were there only to free a horribly oppressed people and save them from mass murder…very noble of us. But if this is the case, why haven’t we done anything to help earn the Kurds autonomy and “self-determination” in Iraq and Turkey? BECAUSE THE KURDS DON’T HAVE ANYTHING WE WANT. As a matter of fact, the Kurds are being horribly oppressed and murdered by Iraq and TURKEY, and Turkey is a NATO country! Why aren’t we bombing Turkey then? Because there’s nothing in it for us.

There is a mine which is one of the largest in the entire world in Kosovo. It produces enormous quantities of metals like lead, zinc, nickel, gold and silver, as well as other more exotic metals and minerals. It’s considered the 3rd largest mine in the world. And it’s right smack in the middle of Kosovo. If NATO can successfully “free” Kosovo, they will naturally put in “peace keeping/protective forces in Kosovo. And then the United States and other key NATO countries like Germany and England will have direct access to one of the largest metals mines in the world, and at rock bottom prices, with no extra effort. The mining complex is vast and well designed (amazing since the Communists designed it) and puts out millions of tons of ore. Guess what? If NATO and the U.S. gains control of this mine, the U.S. will be able to get a huge chunk of this ore AT PRICES THAT ARE LOWER THAN IN THE UNITED STATES. Much lower, even lower including the transportation of the ore. This would of course drive American ore prices even higher, but then, that’s not the point, is it?

In the Gulf War, Iraq did some fundamentally wrong things in invading Kuwait, this is sure. However, as much as we would like to think that we went to fight Iraq to free Kuwait, we’d be fools to believe it. We went because, like Gary Oldman’s terrorist character said in the movie Air Force One, “….to save a nickel on a gallon of gas…” And we’re in Kosovo to get our hands on that mine. You ask how could this be? Well, the Serbs have supposedly been oppressing the ethnic Albanians for a hell of a long time, so why did it take so long for us to “do” something? Pretty simple, because nobody really thought about the mine before until lately. Somebody said, in one of the NATO countries (probably us), “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we had this mine?” and everybody else in NATO said “Oh hell yeah, why didn’t we think of it before! We go in to supposedly grant the Kosovars their autonomy and then we put in our forces under the full blessings of the U.N. as ‘protection’, and we get access to this huge mine! What a great idea! We spend a few billion dollars to prosecute a war of submission against Yugoslavia, then we make back the money spent (but don’t mention the lives of NATO troops lost of course) in the cheaply produced metals! What a great idea! Tell the troops to start packing…”

If we really cared about “freeing oppressed peoples” then why the hell haven’t we taken on China to stop the long oppression of Tibet? Answer: There’s nothing up in the Himalayas that Tibet has the we really want. This same holds true for the Kurds and other “oppressed peoples” around the globe. If you want the U.S. and NATO to come in and help you out, well, you better make it worth our while.

I’m quite sure that if my state of Nevada wanted to secede from the United States and we had some mines or other resource that the U.S. didn’t want to lose, we’d have NATO bombing Las Vegas and Carson City to “free the oppressed peoples of Nevada and insure their autonomy…” Yeah….. ………right.
