Che and Fidel were quite successful in Cuba, where they went on to assassinate everyone who was even related to someone who stood against them. Hitler rallied the poor against the evil capitalist Jews. Lenin? Pol Pot? Mau? Great world leaders who started their careers promoting socialism and communism and ended up authoritarian dictators. You cannot give up capitalism without giving up democracy. Whether you vote for socialism, or fight for socialism, you get military rule in the end, because without individual freedom (economic AND political), there can never be collective freedom.
