A few years back I wrote an article about the failures of the Endangered Species Act, but I only touched on the political implications of the Yellowstone wolf recovery program.

I urge you to take an hour of time out of your busy life and watch this educational film about the effects that the wolf reintroduction is having on real people in the wolf recovery zone. JD also delves into the real agenda behind the program, and backs up his bold claim that “it was never about the wolves.”

Interesting movie. I have always thought the endangered species act was an extremist piece of legislation open to abuse. However if you opposed it then you opened yourself up to persecution and derision. Case in point, I am a hunter and spent my working life in management postions in the extractive industries (soda ash, oil shale, natural gas, engineering consulting) and individuals in favor of the act were always quick to discount my opinion because of my work association. All of the companies I worked for required strict compliance with any and all laws and as an employee I worked hard to maintian that compliance. Now as a retired citizen (with no employer) I am free to say the act is being used by those who simply want to shutdown industrial progress, ranching and hunting. Most of the legal activity is intiated by dreamers who envison a past world that never existed. And yes, it never was about wolves – it was about stopping the progress of mankind.
